Ok.. I have 5 adult hens on one side of the chicken house.... then I have 2 males and 1 hen mingling with the Orps.  I have not moved them over for a couple of reasons

1. The guinea room is too small to hold even one more.

2. Well they entertain themselves by pecking and chattering through the wire wall at each other.  Keeps the boredom down during the winter.. lol

3. It is also easier to get the girls back inside the coop when they can hear the other guineas calling.

Would it be better to turn them all loose when the snow is gone... OR should I only let one of the newer ones out at a time.  I know that the purple male had a particular hen picked out....she has her eye on him too... the lavendar pied male is still looking... and well... your not gonna believe this... the purple hen.... has fallen head over hills for Marshall.. yep saw it with my own eyes.  She cuddles up to him... attempts to groom..... then runs circles around him with her head held low.... chattering (mine mine mine) when the chicken hens approach!!  Soo I guess I will just leave her in with the chickens.  But do I turn the two boys out in the spring at the same time or not??

I think it has alot to do with how big the free range area isand how many hens.

We live out in the sticks Sem.. lots and lots of free range... The 2 male guineas have been ok with the chickens soo far... I am afraid the guinea girls are going to go into attack mode once a boy is turned loose.. Ok say they accept him.. now.. I have the other one to turn out.... My worries are the first boy is going to lead the attack on the 2nd one.. ugggg...." I can just feel more gray hairs growing."  I will probably turn both boys out at the same time.

We have plans to double the size of our current chicken house with a walk way between them.  I want to turn the guinea room we are using right now into nursery.  It's 2 1/2ft. by 8ft.  I think it would work great for a hen to set and hatch off her brood.

I can't wait for SPRING>>> Can't you tell.. lol

I forgot to mention... 2 males will be turned loose with 5 hens. Now I have a 6th hen... but she has eyes for Marshall only.. lol.

I just thought of something.... My purple hen is on the small side.... compared to my original  Pearl hens. I am afraid her eggs will be too small to support a live Orp cross baby. :(

Maybe she will have a growth spurt.... I know the last three I got are younger than my original girls.

I've heard for Guineas it's better to start letting them out one bird at a time.  (for new birds that have never been free-ranged).  That way, they come back for their friends.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about her crossing with your orp and not being able to support the baby in the egg.  IMHO, chick size has a lot to do with egg size, and even really big chickens can hatch out of a pullet egg.

And.. maybe you don't want a X anyway...

I also read that they do not live that long. Guess their hearts can not handle the fast rate of growth they do.....

I think the max of one so far is 3 years??  :(

But don't quote me on that!

Today was the BIG day!... I caught both of my buzzard boys working in unison stalking and attacking Marshall.  Well that went over like a fly in the punch..   Marshall coward between the wall and the saw horse perch.  I tossed both of those buzzards right out of the coop yard to freedom.  Then... the girl buzzards attacked them viciously.  The pied boy fell off the roof and was wedged between the  propane tank and the fence... so he was easy to grab.  I tossed him into the buzzard's side of coop... He stayed in there even with the door left over.. lol  The purple boy flew from roof top to roof top with at least 2 girls in hot pursuit.  I tossed out bread pieces... this at least caught the attention of several of the girls and brought them all but one down to me... I was able to escort them into their room from there... yes the pied boy is still in there take in mind...the purple boy came to me.. and I was able to get him in.  I closed the door with one girl still out.  I found her a little later...trying to hide herself behind a garden box.  She let me grab and hand carry her to the coop... tossed her in... It is getting dark by now and I wanted to go back inside to see how things were going.  It looks like the Pied boy will be the flock leader when all is said and done.  He had all of the girls on the floor in a pile ... pacing around them like some kind of kidnapper... daring them to move.  They weren't giving him any crap either... lol  Ok should be interesting to see how this unfolds in the morning.  I sure had no intentions of doing this soo soon... but... Marshall was in danger and how do I know those boys didn't have a beak in the feather plucking of my poor hens.

Yep I was right... the Pied boy is the leader.   He has pick himself out a harem up 3 hens.  The Purple boy hid in the coop most of the day... He finally came out... and was submissive to the Pied.  I was nervous most of the day.. Saw the Pied chasing all 5 hens down the road. I am like.. OOOH great!

Saw the temps were dropping at 3:00 soo went out to shut the chickens in for the night.... and Low and behold.. all of the buzzards were in their own room...sooo closed them in too... YEAH!

So it is true...you can rehome and free range adult guineas. It just takes time.
